Fiji Literacy Project
Our own Steve Handy, Corey Kawamoto, and Wayne "Cowboy" Kaneshiro worked on this year's International Literacy project to the Republic of Fiji. They targeted an isolated district school with minimal to nothing as far as literacy materials. They raised $1500 through club donations and outside resources, and all the money was spent on the purchase of books. Here are some of the photos from their efforts.
This project had two missions:
--get the books to a school that really needed some help, and also
--establish a new relationship with a prominent member of society from Nadi who has a focus on helping the needy.
Steve, Corey, and Wayne were successful in both goals, and they have established a relationship with Mr. Marc Mcelrath from Macdonald's Fiji who was instrumental in making their project a success. Marc assured them that he will be there for us and for the people of Fiji any time we visit, and as many times as we want. Steve will be giving a talk at our May 16th meeting.
