$200 Challenge
Jon McVickar Challenges Members
"The Hilo Rotary Club Foundation will contribute $200 to the read aloud Program (Rotary in Kindergarten) if three other members will match that amount," was Jon McVickar's challenge to his fellow rotarians at this week's meeting.
Alberta Dobbe was the first to rise, then another, and another. Soon the atmosphere resembled a high energy auction, and soon we had matched and surpassed Jon's initial challenge. At last count, we had collected more than $1200 toward the club's Rotary in Kindergarten service project. The keiki in our local kindergartens already love having the rotary members read to them each month, and these monies will make a dent in reimbursing committee chair, Glenn Harris, for his out-of-pocket expenses to get the program off the ground.
