Maechan, Thailand

One of our international efforts this year is to partner with the Rotary Club of Bonita Springs, Florida to fund a water project for Maechan, Thailand.  The grant (GG1416818) has been submitted to The Rotary Foundation for a decision.

The Thai government will cover the costs of digging a well near the school grounds, so that our project will:
  1. renovate the existing toilets
  2. install more toilets to accommodate the 900 students
  3. install showers for the girls
  4. pipe water to the school
  5. renovate the canteen (cafeteria) so there will be clean water and a station for washing dishes
  6. provide a science curriculum with microscopes to show the bacteria in dirty water to underscore the need for clean water and hygiene

It is our hope that through the focus on sanitation and clean water, we will make a lasting impact on the lives of the children who live in this remote area of Thailand.

Fiji Literacy Project

Steve Handy, Wayne Kaneshiro, and Corey Kawamoto have secured donations from our club as well as from our generous community to support the purchase of books for kindergarten through third grade levels at the Nadi Centre in Fiji.

Ka'u High School Computer Project - 2012

One of our past international projects secured computers and video equipment for the Ka'u High School students.  Several students entered their videos in the 2012 Digital Mountain Film Festival, and Sienna Okimoto won in the 10th thru 12th Grade Category with the video above.  Kamrie Koi won the People's Choice Award, and Wen Jing Yang and Wen Hui Yang also entered.  All benefitted from this grant secured by our International Services committee.
