For many young people facing homelessness or housing instability, finding a safe space and the right support can feel overwhelming. That’s why Neighborhood Place of Puna is proud to introduce the Anchor Point Youth Center, a new drop-in center in downtown Hilo designed specifically for youth and young adults aged 14 to 24 who need a helping hand.

Anchor Point Youth Center is the result of a collaborative effort between HOPE Services Hawai’i, Neighborhood Place of Puna, and The Salvation Army. Together, these organizations have created a space where young people can access critical resources and build a foundation for a brighter, more stable future.

Your Mission, if you choose to accept it, is to form eleven teams of like minded Rotarians, to adopt one of eleven Rotary Rooms and fill them with the “must have” items on the attached list. As always, if you are not able to find a team of Rotarians, the Secretary will assign you a team.  

This will be our Rotarians At Work Day project for April. Let’s get working to help fill these rooms for Foster Children that are “aging out” of their families and in need of a new place to call home. 

This event, chaired by Virginia Juergen, D5000 Paul Harris Society Chair and member of the Rotary Club of Hilo Bay, and supported by joint club members and Foundation chairs will have two distinguished speakers:  Vicki Publiz - Incoming Rotary Foundation Trustee & past Rotary International Director 2022-2023) Reno, NV.  Shirley Grace - Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for Zone 26, Fresno, CA.

Just wanted to remind everyone about tomorrow's monthly activities with our Veterans at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home from 10am-11am. It is open to all Rotarians, and our partner organizations. These are moments we cherish in spending just a little bit of time with our Veterans and we know how much these visits mean to them. We hope you can join us!  Mahalo for everything you do—let’s work together to make this effort a resounding success!

On Saturday, April 19; 9 am-12 pm the Eco Satellite Club will be working at the Hawaii Island Home for Recovery and is asking for your help and support.

We are having mulch delivered on Thursday, April 17 and need help to spread mulch and clean out grow beds.

Working in the dirt not for you?  NO problem!  We also would appreciate any snacks or lunch items you can drop off.  

Our goal is to help start a garden for the residents and encourage self sufficiency, sustainablity, and restoration.

Join us for a Mini Mixer! Learn how to make lei po'o using artificial flowers and greenery. 

We will be provided with an instructor and supplies. The cost is $60 per person, and will be paid on the day of the event. 

This event will accomodate a maximum of 10 people - please don't hesitate to sign up.

Refreshments will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own refreshments as well.

We’re thrilled to invite you to a very special off-site Rotary meeting on Friday, April 25th, hosted at the beautifully renovated Salvation Army location in Hilo. This is not our usual meeting spot—and for good reason!

We’ll be honored by the presence of our Honorable Mayor, Dr. Kimo Alameda—who will share his vision for Hawai‘i County and what’s ahead during his term as Mayor.

Please RSVP by APRIL 19th so we can plan accordingly—lunch will be catered and I need an accurate headcount to ensure everyone is taken care of.

This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from our island’s leadership, connect with fellow Rotarians, and show support with a strong turnout.
