August 6th, 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, a moment in history that changed the world forever.
Each year, our sister Rotary club, Hiroshima South, gathers at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park to lay flowers at the Cenotaph. A solemn tribute to the lives lost and a call for peace that still echoes across generations.
For over 50 years, the Rotary Club of Hilo has stood alongside them, sending a floral wreath across the Pacific. Though separated by thousands of miles, we are bound together by a shared commitment to service, peace, and reconciliation.
This tradition is more than a gesture. It is a reminder that Rotary’s mission doesn’t stop at geography or the weight of history — it continues through relationships
. It reflects our belief that peace is built through relationships — through listening, remembering, and showing up for one another year after year.
The bond between our two clubs symbolizes what Rotary is at its best: a global family choosing connection over conflict, and hope over despair.
As we reflect on this day, we remember those who were lost, honor the survivors, and recommit ourselves to a more peaceful future — one act of service and one relationship at a time.
