The Rotary Club of Hilo recently completed their dictionary project for 3rd grade students.  This year we visited 10 schools, 18 classes with 320 excited students.  I was able to attend every visit this year, which made it a very memorable experience.

We combined two additional projects with our dictionary visit this year, which the teachers were very happy to support; our Keiki Vision Screening and 4-Way Test poster contest.  Along with the dictionaries, the teachers wanted to get the Keiki Vision Screening done in the first semester to better address their students needs and to help improve on their literacy skills.  The added 4-Way Test poster contest assisted Rotary with helping each student truly understand each question and how it applies to their young lives.  One big part of the 4-Way Test poster contest was that each student needed to complete a poster to be eligible for the class prize, which was a new Amazon Kindle.  The Kindle's will be used by the teacher to help inspire their students to become better readers and to learn how to use this new technology.

I am happy to say that all classes were 100% and we delivered 18 Kindles to those 320 smiling faces.

A collection of our 4-Way Test posters will be on display at the upcoming District Conference at Turtle Bay.

See you there!
