YOUTH SERVICES

Make great investments starting today. Invest your time and/or your money, and your compassion in our youth services programs. Youth are eager learners, enjoys working with others and yearn to be community contributors. Through your special attention and wisdom, they can gain the skills and confidence they need.  Whether your moment with our youth is a single visit or an on-going interaction, you can change lives for the better and forever. Your return on investment is guaranteed, however you need to be alert to the rewards.

ROTARY IN KINDERGARTEN is a club created reading program in our schools. Our club members dedicate a monthly visit to read a book to their kindergarten class and from time to time there is a book for each to take home. More than a book, you become a hero students can count on to be there and demonstrate the joy of reading. Big smiles and many thankful messages will all be yours.

Can you even remember the first book you ever owned? Witness this first hand while distributing dictionaries to third graders. The shared goal of Hawaii Island Rotary clubs is to gift every third grader with one. Our DICTIONARY PROJECT just needs you to join other club members on visits to schools. You’ll be happy you did.

If little guys are not your favorite, consider our collegiate Rotary, the ROTARACT CLUB at the University of Hawaii – Hilo.  In a joint effort of all East Hawaii Rotary Clubs, our young adult members show the same joy in community service and their club is a magnet for a diversity of students to work together. Even at this level, your mentorship is needed and appreciated.

The YOUTH EXCHANGE program allows you to make a global imprint of your Aloha. Youth Exchange students are Hawaii students going out into the world and students coming to stay in Hawaii. These specially selected students build peaceful ties between nations.  Be a host family or spend time with our visiting student. Inspire someone with your aloha spirit and have a friend for life.

The high school model of Rotary is INTERACT and we sponsor two clubs, WAIAKEA HIGH INTERACT and the LAUPAHOEHOE INTERACT.  Helping these clubs can be taking turns to visit their meetings and helping them in community service work. These students leaders will bring to you youthful energy and tremendous hope for our future.

Do you want adventure? Say YES when you hear RYLA, ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS! Three days with high school students from around the island sounds exhausting but it is really energizing. A weekend in the beauty of our Volcanoes National Park challenges everyone, is where we all teach and learn and we find the transformation of lives (including ours) remarkable.

YOUTH SERVICES has a need and place for you to give and receive. Share your available time, energy and care along with us. Please call Gail Takaki at 430-5898 for more information.
