Rotary Park Work Day

The five East Hawaii Rotary clubs swarmed through Kuhio Kalaniana'ole Park in Hilo to work on Phase II of the "Rotary Park Project".  In 2005, as part of the Rotary Centennial, the five clubs worked together to bring many improvements to the park, turning it into a great place to relax by the bay.  Today's event was organized by Mike Robinson, who kept us focused and safe, considering the number of chainsaws.

This phase, which was started by a professional arborist, was to continue to clear many of the invasive plants from the park.  The small viewing platform, which was badly deteriorated, was removed and the clubs will be working with the county to design a replacement. The county will be donating additional picnic tables and park benches which will be added in the next few weeks.  Another work day will be scheduled to continue the clean-up.

Twelve Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Hilo participated in the event.  They included Richard, Jenny Johnson, Kerry Glass, Susan Munro, Treena Breyfogle, Jimmy Yagi, Eric Cohen, Cindy Boots, Tina Jimenez, Mike Robinson, Misti Tyrin and Tammy Silva.

Be sure and stop by the park and check out the improvements.
