Rotarians at the Ironman

Six members from the Rotary Club of Hilo joined Rotarians from South Hilo , Pahoa Sunset and a large group of Rotaractors from UH Hilo to staff the bicycle turnaround in Hawi.  Also joining us again this year were  several from participants from the BISAC program in Hilo.  They are always a great help and so enthusiastic.  Hilo Rotarians (shown above l to r) included - Kerry Glass, Kathleen McGilvray, Susan Munro, Jenny Johnson, Richard Johnson and Yoko Hayano.

Weather in Hawi can range from hot and dry to cold and rainy.  This year it was sunny and bright and very, very windy.  This was good for the workers but the participants said they faced strong headwinds the entire 50 miles up from Kona.  We ensured them that the way back was down hill and tail winds the entire time.  Not sure if they believed us or not.

We continue to be amazed by the competitors level of commitment needed to participate in this grueling event.
