Elephants, Cheetahs, and Kudu

Chris Tamm shared some stunning photographs from his recent trip to South Africa.  This was the first time he had returned to the area in 32 years, and so much has changed.  Chris and his wife, Barbara, traveled for 48 hours from Hawaii to reach Cape Town, South Africa (and not all of those miles were via plane).  After resting for two days, they traveled to the confluence of the Shashe and the Limpopo Rivers at the border between Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.  (If you would like to see all the photos from their trip, please click here.)

Here are some of Chris's favorites:
Below:  elephant mom and teenager.  The youngster had a scratch on one of his hind legs, and was using his other hind leg to scratch it.

This was the first cheetah Chris had seen in real life.  It was an absolutely spectacular male, and this picture was taken at sun-up.  The cheetah had fed recently, so he was like an aloof house cat.

Below is a kudu.  He was licking his lips so the bush he was eating must have been quite tasty.

Chris and Barbara's travels also took them to the Skeleton Coast, and below is a picture of one of many shipwrecks in the area.

Their travels also took them to the furthermost tip of South Africa where the two oceans meet.
