Bamboo Fun

Rotarians, volunteers from the University of Hawaii Master Gardeners Association, Sierra Club and Friends of Liliuokalani Gardens came together on Saturday July 18th to help thin the overgrown thicket of bamboo in the Liliuokalani Garden Park.  Volunteers worked in pairs cutting the bamboo, hauling it and then stacking it evenly on the truck.  We were able to fill two truckloads of bamboo, which will be chipped for fertilizer at the Mountain Meadows Nursery.

Selected cuttings of bamboo were also being used to create works of art to add to a fun filled day.
It was a really hot and humid day, but lunch and refreshments were provided to replenish our souls.
We will be planning another "Bamboo Fun in the Park" in September to complete the back section.
Please save the date and join us for a fun-filled service day.
